JusMin Gorghiu: After 17 years of continuous running, we have today a CVM officially of the past
Justice Minister Alina Gorghiu said on Friday that, after 17 years of continuous running, the Cooperation and Verification Mechanism (CVM) is officially a thing of the past, mentioning that this mechanism played a key role in reforming Romanian justice, told Agerpres.
„After 17 years of continuous running, we have today a CVM officially of the past, by the decision published half an hour ago by the European Commission. I thank you honestly, sincerely, with all my love for the judiciary as a whole for the closure of this mechanism, which played a key role in the reform of Romanian justice. I am also thanking all those who really contributed to reach this milestone and I am thinking of the President of Romania, the Government, Parliament, the Ministry of Justice, the Permanent Representation of Romania to the European Union, the diplomats, all the other institutions, especially Catalin Predoiu,” said Gorghiu, at the event „Priorities of the justice system and the Report on the Rule of Law – national and European context.”
Gorghiu mentioned that the closure of the CVM is added to the list of strategic country projects.
„It is an important moment for the Romanian state and I do not think we are exaggerating if we add the closure of the CVM to the list of strategic projects of the country, together with Romania’s accession to the EU and entry into NATO, and I am convinced that together we will be able to continue the list with the accession to the OECD and joining the Schengen area,” the minister added.
